Newsday is an American daily newspaper that primarily serves Nassau and Suffolk Counties and the New York City borough of Queens on Long Island, although it is also sold throughout the New York metropolitan area.

Newsday is an awful place to work, there is a toxic and stressful working environment and a terrible working culture, and management micromanages employees, according to a current employee at glassdoor.com

"Awful place to work. Company culture is the absolute worst. Lots of backstabbing and whispers behind people’s backs. Management micromanages to the fullest extent, telling you to do things over and over again over the dumbest of things. Lots and lots of anger and sighing exudes from people here. Might either be stress or sad that they’re still working here for so long."

Former Employee - Customer Service Representative says

"I worked at Newsday full-time for more than a year Cons: Everything else, shady company hidden fees, taking advantage of the elderly ....makes you feel dirty all over and not worth it"

says

"I worked at Newsday Cons: Don’t let the ladies in charge fool you, this is not a safe place for women in the workplace. Years and years in HR over the same issue and it never got resolved. The toxicity in the place is rampant and their business model moving forward is counter to the industry. Perfect place to work if you wish to return home each night, cry into your awful benefits package and loads of money and question all your career choices."

Former Employee - Photo Editor says

"I worked at Newsday full-time for more than 10 years Cons: there's no money, traveling and covering events is non existent."

Former Employee - Reporter says

"I worked at Newsday full-time for more than 5 years Cons: No drive to win or break news. Editors who are too afraid to be first and happy to follow others on major scoops. They champion lack of competition and love to talk about how they are the only game in town, which are not winning qualities in the news business. Stories that sits for weeks, months or do not run at all. Too focused on the newspaper versus new media. Corrosive newsroom culture which leads to low morale and infectious level of unhappiness. Problematic level of racism. It's a culture where people are trying to cover their own but and will throw you under the bus, leading to a day-to-day environment in which you do not know who to trust. Employees who feel like they are trapped, especially those who are raising families on Long Island. Expectation to be at your desk with vindictive editors who want you there because they have to be there. Company policy during a blizzards where there is a state-wide warning to avoid the roads: non-essential employees are expected to come to the office or forfeit personal days instead of being allowed to work from home. Lots of unimportant meetings. Cheap when it comes to sourcing and expense accounts. Always about five-10 years behind the rest of the industry when it comes to being on the cutting edge. Poor mentorship. Don't listen to employees, and a culture in which people employees are reprimanded for lodging constructive criticism. Lots of talk but no action, or action that is not substantive. Lots of attrition. Terrible benefits, with multiple employees have complained of going into debt because of high high deductible health care plan. No leave for parents to be. People joke that this is a place you go to pasture. Sadly, it's true. Newsday = Dead end."

"I have been working at Newsday full-time for more than a year Cons: Awful place to work. Company culture is the absolute worst. Lots of backstabbing and whispers behind people’s backs. Management micromanages to the fullest extent, telling you to do things over and over again over the dumbest of things. Meetings go on endlessly over (once again) the dumbest of things without anything being accomplished. Lots and lots of anger and sighing exudes from people here. Might either be stress or sad that they’re still working here for so long. Not a lot of people seem happy. Plenty of negativity from people talking about how great the past was and how doomed the company is in the future. Located in the middle of nowhere in Long Island, so good luck getting there if you live in the city or elsewhere. Traffic is insane no matter what time of day you leave. Company’s in an office park nowhere near a train station so it’s pretty much use a car or nothing to get there. Very corporate feel. Upper management almost never talks to anyone below middle management. Has cafeteria, but food is pretty overpriced and good luck getting anything hot if you’re not in before 2 p.m. Mostly stuff you could get from a vending machine. Insurance isn’t that great and costs a lot. Read a lot of negative reviews about this place before I came to work here. Can sadly confirm most of them are true."

"I have been working at Newsday full-time Cons: Poor management that focuses on trivial matters instead of addressing real issues."

Former Employee - Anonymous Employee says

"I worked at Newsday full-time Cons: micro-management, low morale, management was at odds with union employees"

Former Employee - Anonymous Employee says

"I worked at Newsday full-time for more than a year Cons: Truly, a terrible and backwards company. They don’t trust their employees and value things that absolutely don’t matter. No plan to move the business ahead in a world that’s already changed and left them in the dust. It would be surprising if they were still around in 3-5 years."

Former Employee - Account Executive says

"I worked at Newsday full-time for more than 10 years Cons: extremely toxic work environment with zero morale"

Former Employee - Sales Executive says

"I worked at Newsday full-time for less than a year Cons: I was let go from the company because I did not say goodbye to my manager at the end of my day. Unbelievable how entitled the place can be. They also expect you to bend over backwards and work beyond your required working hours, even if you completed all that needed to be done."
